Savvy Seminar I: The 21st Century Product Development System: Agile, Flexible, and Waste Free

This half day seminar introduces the essential elements of the 21st Century product development system which product development organizations in the manufacturing sector are adapting. More recently referred to as “agile product development,” some call it flexible product development while a few call it “lean” product development. Fundamentally, this is a system in which skilled, technical knowledge workers generate product designs, develop the designs for timely manufacture and launch to satisfy 21st Century customer demands for high quality/performance.

Deliverables include ten large visuals of the system and its key components. A glossary of terms and a leader’s reference plan are included with instruction how to introduce the system to colleagues.

The SavvyTM Knowledge Consort Announces the:

Workshop: “Getting Started with Elements of Lean Product Design and Development Process Improvement”

This is the first workshop designed and presented by product development professionals with early adopter experiences interpreting Toyota’s Product Innovation Design and Development System (TPIDDS). It prepares product development engineering managers and improvement leaders to help their organizations get started: learn, interpret and integrate elements of TPIDDS.

A variety of product development organization leaders have learned, interpreted and integrated the thinking and practice that Toyota uses in their product innovation, design and development processes.

This workshop helps you assess the current situation, identify the allies, frame the problems/hurdles, see the “learning trajectories” of Savvy Consortium members, help frame your “start up options”. Evoke a commitment to your first task.

Workshop Agenda:
  • The change initiation process: current state - future state and “improved state.”
  • The Design Engineering Knowledge Worker: understanding the six pre-requisites for product development process and productivity improvement.
  • Four barriers to change/continuous improvement in product development process and people.
  • How the Savvy Consortium did it: selected learning trajectories or knowledge build models.
  • Task #1 Frame up the problem that elements of TPIDDS thinking/practice could, would, should solve:
  • Task #2 Frame up the problems/ dilemmas you face getting TPIDDS thinking/practice started at your firm. Address current opportunities, initiatives, pilot projects that can enable the start.
  • Construct several solutions to the problems/dilemmas.
  • The first step (work structure) you intend upon return.
