About
The Savvy Consortium: Who We Are
Savvy is the name of a consortium of product development and technical development engineering managers. Their development organizations, large and mid sized, develop products used in variety of industries and comprised of many product/market segments. They design and commercialize products manufactured for local, national and global customers.
These Savvy Members are director level engineering managers who direct their product design, test and development people and processes, while simultaneously learning and implementing the superior principles of knowledge based product development, also called “lean” product development.
Savvy members learn by studying innovators and lean development organizations:
1. The design and development principles and practices of the
Wright Brothers whose innovations resulted in the first airplane.
2. The Toyota Product Development System comprised of thirteen principles (Morgan/Liker) four pillars (Allen Ward) and based on the
teachings of American authors Peter F. Drucker and W. Edwards Deming.
Since 2005, Savvy members richest source of learning derives from their study and adaptation of the principles/practices of each other’s lean product development organizations.
Savvy Consortium Mission
1. Help product development managers learn and adapt the “knowledge first” Lean Product Design and Development System.
2. Help you adapt the practices of a wide range of Savvy product development people who have deep experience adapting “knowledge-based” lean product development thinking/practices in their organizations.
3. Help you learn and adapt the Western Trusted Leader model that engages people of all culture in their personal pursuit of excellence in product development work in design centers around the globe.
Savvy Group of Experienced Product Development Leaders
A growing number of Savvy product development managers have demonstrated success in learning and adapting the knowledge based Lean product development people/process system. They form the Savvy Leaders, a group of “go to” people with experiential knowledge and successful impact on their organizations.
Not listed publicly, these leaders focus their work on building their people before process improvement. They are available at various Savvy learning events, especially the semi-annual Savvy Conferences in Chicago and Minneapolis.
